Tomte, also known as nisse in Norwegian and Danish mythology, is a mythical creature from Scandinavian folklore, often depicted as a small, bearded, elderly man with a red cap. Traditionally, the tomte is seen as a guardian of farms and households, responsible for protecting the land and its inhabitants. He is said to live in the barn or under the floorboards, quietly helping with chores and ensuring the welfare of the animals and crops. However, tomtes are known to be easily angered if they are mistreated or neglected, often demanding respect, food (especially porridge during the winter holidays), and attention. If disrespected, they are said to cause mischief or even bring bad luck to the farm. While generally benevolent, the tomte’s protective and sometimes vengeful nature highlights the balance of care and respect in human interactions with the natural and domestic world in Scandinavian culture.

Each piece is unique. Made from acrylic yarn, PolyFiber fill, and wooden beads. Add a handmade touch to your holiday or year-round decorations.
